5th to 8th July 2017, MTB Stage Race

MTB Trilogy

What kind of race is MTB Trilogy

The race consists of a prologue and three stages, each has a completely different character and quite challenging profile (both technically and physically). Start and finish of each stage are always at the same place in Teplice nad Metují.

Timing service and time limits

Timing service is provided by chip technology Sportchallenge. Each rider (including Enduro) has a bib number on the handlebars. The bib number contains a passive RFID chip. For correct function, the bib must be readable.

For your safety we set the time limits on the feeding stations. After this limit the feeding station stuff will give you ride to the finish or, if your condition will permit it, you will go back the the finish by yourself. We set the time limits so you can ride whole trail with average speed 8km/h.

Safety on the trail

Just like other MTB races, when you ride MTB Trilogy, you race uphill and downhill. If you don't feel like riding some of the downhills, make way for others.

Plus you're sharing the trail with Enduro riders who are racing on the speed test - which go mostly downhill. Pleas, be careful and thoughtful, they will try to be thoughful too it their speed.

Enduro riders start as last riders, so there's fat chance you won't meet them. Plus they usually rest and prepare themselves before the speed test, so they plan their start to have a clear path.

All roads are open to traffic during the race . Competitors are required to follow traffic rules and follow the law on road traffic. Organizers are there for informational purposes only and are not allowed to restrict traffic.

Health & bike service

On selected places will be MTB service (the work is for free, riders only have to pay the material used on their bikes.) and health service.

What awaits for you in the finish

The finish line is in Teplice nad Metují park. After the race visit our finish feeding station with warm food (or cold in case of extremely high temperatures), water, regeneration drink. You can clean your bike, yourself and if needed you can again use our bike service. You can order in your start package also massages. After last successful stage you will get finisher t-shirt.

Award ceremony is held in the Teplice nad Metují park after each stage. General (last) award ceremony accompanies music concert with several groups.

MTB Trilogy - Extreme

Specifics of the Extreme Race

Extreme Race is the long or original trail of the MTB Trilogy.

Stages

Stages are characterized by a large number of single trails and only the necessary minimum of road sections. .

Approx. lenght of the stage is 8+70+70+80=228 km and elevation about 8400 m.

Maps are available here.

Starts of the stages

All stages start in the morning in the Teplice nad Metují park. Except for the prologue in form of time trial taken on the first day afternoon.

Starting blocks: first 30, 60 a 90 riders in general results will start from their own starting block. The rest of the riders goes from the main starting block.

Feedeng stations

Each stage (excluding prologue) you will find at least 3 feeding stations with drinks and food: fruits, bread, cheese, sausage, non-alcoholic beer, coke, home-made cakes or cookies.

MTB Trilogy - Enduro

Specifics of the Enduro

The trail of the Enduro cathegory is the same as for Extreme Race or Half Race. For Enduro cathegory are obligatory marked sections: speed tests. Total time of the race is the sum of the speed tests time.

Speed test (ST)

Speed test is a section of the trail, usually downhill and technical. The length of the speed test varies (winner time of the shortest ST 1:11, winner time of the longest ST 6:46. For slower riders the long ST took 14 mintes.)

The trail is safe, meaning: no jumps (like a take off .:|||...::... landing) and you can ride it all on sight. The trail is natural. The surface varies even withing one stage: can be grass, roots, rock or rubble.

We're preparing ST descriptions (profile + surface).

Starts of the stages

All stages start in the morning in the Teplice nad Metují park. Except for the prologue in form of time trial taken on the first day afternoon.

Enduro riders start with marathon riders. First three starting block are for first 90 riders (it can be Enduro rider). Main starting block is for the rest of the marathon riders and last starting block is for the Enduro riders.

Don't forget to clear and start your chips!

Enduro Timing

We use Sportident Air+ system to measure ST time. At the start of the ST is our crew waiting with a box - you can prepare for the ST and when you're ready, starter will help you to punch your chip and with a beep you're good to go. The finish of the ST is touchless, you just need to pass no more then 1.5 meter from finish box and watch the chip on your handlebars - it'll flash several times and beeps (you won't hear that but flashing is easy to see). Just make sure at the beginning of the stage that you clear and start your chip. Just in case, another check will be before the first ST.

When you finish the stage, don't forget to read out the chip in finish office.

Enduro riders have bib numbers on the handlebars just like marathon riders. Enduro riders can race along with marathon riders and are in their result list. Just in theory, an Enduro rider can win both cathegories (it didn't happend yet). In case you're riding on the top with marathon riders, make sure you notice our crew at the start of the ST.

Model punch

Before the start of the prolog, try Enduro punching. It'll be possible to try it close to the startline and make sure to try it at least 10 minutes before your start.

How difficult is the track

Motorbikers must be able to ride 200 meters of the track. But we wait even for very slow riders, if they don't cry too much.

M5+Z5, the smallest riders on the bikes must be able to ride on asphalt or grass, on track will be only curves, almost no roots (we will try to avoid them).

M6-7+Z6-7 will ride on roots, ride on a curb, jump from a curb. Riders must be able to ride a small downhill section (one meter tall, quite steep). No drops, stairs, difficult uphill. Rider should be able to ride all the track on bike - no cyclecross.

M8-10+Z8-10 will meet roots, curbs, small jumps or drops (about 25 cm tall). They should be able to ride some uphill sections (like one meter up, quite steep), ride down couple of stairs. We expect riders to be able to get off the bike and back on the bike pretty quickly.

M11-12+Z11-12 must be able to manage all as previous categories plus something more. Part of the track is the same as adult track, so riders must be able to do longer downhill sections. We do not plan technical uphill for this category. Rider must know when to get off the saddle, be able to stay calm on the roots or rocks.

M13-14+Z13-14 can expect any part of the adult track.
